the everyday girls go mod

We mentioned earlier this week that we were recently asked to dress up some everyday girls in 60s mod and attend a very cool party. Thankfully, our everyday girl models like to dress up and attend cool parties. They danced all night to the great music -- showing us moves we didn't even know they had.

And each + every one looked amazing in her mod-inspired look. We highly recommend finding your own 60s look + going dancing!

mod makeup ::: three ways

Recently, we were lucky enough to be asked to attend an event with a few of our everyday girl models, all dressed up in 60s mod. (Obviously, it was a very cool event.)

Part of the look had to be the makeup -- and as beautiful (and awesome) as our everyday girls are -- their makeup was just as beautiful, awesome and completely 60s mod inspired.

thrift tip ::: embrace the flannel

Now that autumn is finally here in New England (with colder weather on the way) .... I've been making it a priority to get cozier and cozier. Beside stocking up on thermal pj pants and slippers, I've been falling in love with flannel.

In nearly every thrift store, there are racks and racks of abandoned, lonely, cozy flannel button ups. Once worn by old men with recliners and tube socks, these often overlooked gems are absolutely perfect for the fashionably cozy cold-weather lady.

Just pair them with a fitted white v-neck and leggings, and if you're super fashionable (like me), a pair of big ol' cozy fuzzy socks. Also looks good with fireplaces, bowls of homemade soup and mittens.

If you're feeling overwhelmed -- don't worry, we have a couple of helpful tips so you don't panic when you're knee deep in plaid on your next thrifting excursion.

(I'm healthily obsessed with my new mug, for good reason. give me my flannel and a box of sleepytime tea and I'm good for a week.)

top 10: must haves for fall + winter.

After a bit of a confusing autumn here in New England with hot + humid days .... we can finally feel the chill in the air, the leaves are turning and we're craving pumpkin everything. Now that we can safely pack away the suntan lotion, we're pulling out the necessities for the cold weather.

Jane + I put together our 10 top must haves for fall + winter. These are the things we're planning on keeping us warm/happy/stylish/cozy this season!

an interview with brianna.

After Jane and I saw Brianna Moon's collection during Style Week Providence, we knew we wanted to get to know the designer behind the beautiful, feminine, inspired clothes. We were lucky enough to meet with Brianna in her home studio, after the hustle and bustle of her very first Style Week Providence fashion show was under her belt.

Walking into Brianna's studio feels like walking into your best friend's studio .... somehow, the space manages to be as warm, beautiful, classy and comfortable as Brianna herself. (and we were only slightly swayed by the homemade bread she made.) It is such an incredible creative place ... and we can see how the feminine, pretty details of the room inspired the same in Brianna's creations.

This was my first show at Style Week Providence. I had started watching a lot of movies, including Audrey Hepburn films and movies focused on the 1960s, like Factory Girl. I started to find inspiration in the mixture of the classic looks of Hepburn and in pop art. I wanted to merge these two for my spring/summer collection.

I didn't sketch anything at first ... I just started playing with fabric. I like to start, pull the fabrics together, let the ideas come to me ... and see what happens.

I feel like my clothes are for the everyday girl because every woman wants to be able to throw on something that is easy to go and feel beautiful. I'm known for simple, pretty and feminine a-line dresses. Maybe a pretty dip in the back ... but nothing too scandalous. It's not necessary for women to have to wear such scandalous, uncomfortable clothes in order to feel beautiful.

I strive for two characteristics in everything I make -- classy and comfortable.

We don't know how we could be any more impressed with this amazing fashion designer. Brianna is incredibly creative, talented and brave ... & it shows in her work and in her life (like when she went to France on her own and survived without speaking the language!).

Brianna has a few of her handmade pieces in her etsy shop -- keep an eye on it, she'll be adding more soon! And keep an eye on her ... this is one designer that is going to go places. And look good doing it.

yellow clover.

You may remember Sarah Elizabeth from her interview with us before her show during Styleweek Providence. She's the incredible fashion designer behind her very own label, Yellow Clover. Yes, that Sarah Elizabeth!

Although we had a sneak peek at the clothes before the show ... watching the collection on the runway was simply stunning. If you remember, Sarah cited the disappearance of Amelia Earhart as her inspiration. And her pieces were completely reminiscent of the mystery and romance of that time.

In her interview, Sarah also expressed her love for the details. In her collection, the details were unbelievable. Exposed metal zippers, subtle leather details, sweet feminine florals .... everything was incredibly thoughtful and just beautiful.

Show your love for Yellow Clover on facebook and see where her lovely clothes are offered on her website!

It's totally true. She designs for all of our everyday girls. Each and every one of you!

style week providence ss/2012 my must haves

Jen and I spent the last week viewing the fab new looks of local designers for Spring/Summer 2012 at Style Week Providence! Needless to say, it was probably the most exciting thing that's happened to me in quite a while. I just loved the glamour and the up close view we got of all the works of art, and, of course, a chair in the front row donning my name.

So, you all wanna know what's going to be in for next season? There were a few looks that graced quite a few of the collections:
1. lace, lace, and more lace! this is already one of my classic favs so I'm glad to see it's still around.
2. geometric patterns everywhere! on vintage fabrics and new, we saw tons of triangles and squares.
3. southwestern/Navajo prints. these prints were fluorescent , or primary colors, or black and white. (and i want them all!)

here are a few of my fav looks from the week:

Nicole Lebreux

Brianna Moon
(did I mention the lace?!)

Viva Aviva
(i wanna wear this one on stage with Panther Moderns)

JAS (Joseph Aaron Segal)
(look at this knitwear!!!!)

(and this latch hook sphinx: are you kidding! i need it!)
