apples + coats.

We finally went apple picking! (this elusive fall time activity had been eluding us for years now.) And thankfully, the build up was worth it -- I loved apple picking! There was a lot of foliage and a hayride from a guy wearing overalls sitting on a tractor eating an apple ... you know, now that I think about it - it kind of sounds like a movie set. (but isn't that what New England in the fall is supposed to resemble?)

I now have a big bag of pounds and pounds of various kinds of apples sitting on the kitchen table ... and while I've been far too lazy busy to do something like make an entire apple pie or figure out what "cooking down the apples" means to make applesauce -- I am slowly working my way through this giant bag of apples (otherwise known as a half bushel, you know, in the apple picking circles) by making (yeah, pretty much every other day) apple crisp.

And my friends, it is glorious. And so freaking easy. Like, easy-easy. Recipe below the photos.

Recipe for Ridiculously Easy Apple Crisp that is Good Enough to Serve to Company, or, to Stand over the Kitchen Sink and Polish off at Midnight.

Ingredients:
4 or 5 apples, peeled, sliced, chopped up a little bit.
1/2 cup butter, softened.
1 cup flour (gluten free flour also works wonderfully, for your gf folks)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

Directions:
1. Arrange the sliced apples in a baking dish.
2. Crumble butter, flour, sugar and cinnamon by hand. Leave it clumpy. (sorry, which I had a more appetizing word to use there than "clumpy", but you know what I'm saying)
3. Sprinkle the topping over the apples and bake at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes.
4. Serve warm, with vanilla bean ice cream and warm caramel syrup.

YUM.

Oh! And coats! I nearly forgot -- thinking about apple crisp -- they're on sale in the shoppe! Somebody go snag that amazing deep maroon leather coat before I have to wrestle it from jane's hands!
