speaking of birthdays ...

Today is my birthday. So far, I've had iced coffee and homemade cinnamon rolls, listened to my parent's long distance harmonious (um, sort of harmonious? maybe a little harmonious? really, well, not that harmonious) version of Happy Birthday and opened a present.

So far, it's been a damn good day.

I have to say though - it's been a good week - since at the beginning of it, Jane threw me what I can arguably say was my best birthday party ever -- and that's even including my 9th birthday when Mom let Stacy Rothschadel spend the night after we went to the Rockford Mall to see The Rockateer. God, that was a good birthday.

Jane put together the prettiest, loveliest garden party I've ever seen. I've a very visual person - and I like good looking things - and this party was good. looking. I felt like I spent most of the time oogling over the fresh flowers everywhere and all the adorable little vintage dishes holding every condiment under the sun. And I now believe chopped onions should always be served in a 1960s miniature sky blue crock.

Jane made everyone Watermelon Mojitos -- which I also now believe should be served every warm summer afternoon. Games were played - sparklers were lit - and cake ... oh god, was cake eaten. The most beautiful, impressive cake I've ever seen. Jane even made it my favorite color -- arctic frost.

Beyond being just plain beautiful and amazing ... this party was also fun. Despite horribly losing at bocce, I laughed so hard my face hurt and I ate so much my stomach hurt. It was indulgent, special and an absolute blast. (literally. we set off a bunch of fireworks.)

And I felt lucky, loved and slightly tipsy from all the mojitos. In conclusion - the best feeling ever.
