In the past few weeks -- the tragic suicides of LGBTQ youth have been overwhelming and so sad. Beyond sad.
Last week - Jane found the It Gets Better project that Dan Savage and his partner started on youtube.
In Dan's words:
"Billy Lucas was just 15 when he hanged himself in a barn on his grandmother's property. He reportedly endured intense bullying at the hands of his classmates—classmates who called him a fag and told him to kill himself. His mother found his body.... I wish I could have talked to this kid for five minutes. I wish I could have told Billy that it gets better. I wish I could have told him that, however bad things were, however isolated and alone he was, it gets better."
In response -- Dan created the youtube channel itgetsbetterproject to allow individuals to post videos telling their stories - reaching out to these youth - and reiterating that it will get better. (which, by the way, it does.)
Like Jane said to me -- it's easy right now to sit in the tragedy of these losses -- but what we all have to do is ensure that this stops. happening. right. now.
With real people opening up, sharing their stories, supporting these kids .... maybe it will.
And on that note, one of our favorite members of the fashion community.
Thanks, Tim Gunn.

Oh, this subject maks me feel so chilly, there's nothing harder to take than the death of a child and then to add on top the death of a child who did it to their own self after so much torment.......it's tough.
Love this project.
